New Drobo

I finally decided to get one. I've been hearing about the Drobo for ages (mostly from Cali Lewis on GeekBrief) and even stopped at their booth at Photoshop World, but I never jumped on it, mostly because of my recent tendency to get that "ugh!" feeling whenever I have to do any kind of system administration. A far cry from my former self. I just don't have the time, the attention span or the emotional energy for it anymore.

With the 2nd gen version out, Drobo dropped the price of the 1st gen pretty drastically, and this happened to coincide with my exceeding the capacity on one of my photography drives after a fairly big shoot, so it was just too good to pass up. When it's time, it's time. I don't need the firewire that comes with the 2nd gen anyway, so this is perfect for me.

I got mine from Amazon, along with 4 500GB drives. 1.3TB available to me after formatting. Setup was a snap. I did get that "ugh!" feeling when I started unboxing, but it wasn't justified this time around. I love that.

Aloha...
